EVENT—The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is well known for its impressive collection of fabulous vehicles and automotive-related events. Now, the Petersen will host a number of interesting and informative speakers, as well. Inspired by “Ted Talks,” the Petersen has introduced the new “Pete Talk” series. LA CAR REPORT—This year’s theme of the annual fundraiser for the Automotive Driving Museum involved circus performers. They were saltimbanques, wandering acrobats, performing as buskers in the open air, if you will. The Italian phrase “saltare in banco,” means “to jump on a bench” or a temporary platform to give their audience a better view. And what a view they provided! BOOK REVIEW— With a title like “The BMW Century” you know you’re in for a comprehensive history of all things BMW in this beautiful kaffee table book by Tony Lewin. A seasoned automotive writer and editor with stints at Automotive News Europe, Financial Times Automotive World, and other well-respected publications under his belt, Lewin embarks on an ambitious effort to document the first one hundred years of BMW’s storied history. AUTO REVIEW—As this Sienna’s XLE’s designation indicates, this is the Premium all-in version of Toyota’s very popular and very capable full size “minivan”. I know this is a minivan, the ubiquitous family hauler, utilitarian, not necessarily swift nor sexy. On the other hand, this one is a swift box. That’s 296 horsepower swift. It’s one of the sweetest and most powerful motors in the business, and backed up by an absolutely-never-in-the-wrong-gear Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission.
