”Policy Implications of Autonomous Vehicles” seminar in Washington DC

By Theo-Dric Feng, LA Car Washington Correspondent Policy implications for self-driving vehicles What seemed to be billed as a dry seminar on emerging laws and regulations governing autonomous vehicles, turned out to be a fascinating and far-ranging discussion of the future of driving. In late October, a panel of experts from the government, industry, press, and legal fields gathered in Washington, DC, to exchange views. They touched on issues such as: • Levels of autonomy (hands-off / feet-off / eyes-off / etc.) • Safety technology (pedestrian sensors, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, etc.) • Public acceptance of car autonomy • Affordability (cost to consumer) • Proper balance of state legislation/federal-state agency regulations for system development

The event was hosted by Volvo and the Embassy of Sweden
