The Pasadena Chalk Festival combined with the Pasadena Police Classic Car Show to make it the hottest show in town, in more ways than one (Glenn Oyoung)

Story and pictures by Glenn Oyoung The recent heat wave that started this past weekend did not detract spectators from heading out to Paseo Colorado and enjoying the Pasadena Police 15th Annual Classic Car Show on Sunday. The car show’s timing was excellent, as it was held on Father’s Day and in conjunction with the always-interesting Pasadena Chalk Festival.

It is the 15th Annual Pasadena Police Classic Car Show (Glenn Oyoung)

Despite an astronomical high of 108 degrees at noon, there were still plenty of cool cars on display. After lunch I pulled the Father’s Day card and told my wife that she and my sleeping kids could stay in the family-mobile while I ran out and shot whoever was brave enough to be there at the end.

1939 GM Futureliner (Glenn Oyoung)

Thankfully by the time I arrived, there were still some very nice owners with cool cars that decided to stick around. My personal favorite the 1939 GM Futureliner, a study in art deco done in Godzilla-is-attacking-Green-Street! scale. Harley Earl (GM’s legendary designer and father of the Corvette and Cadillac’s tailfins, to name a few) designed this fashionable behemoth himself. Other examples worthy of the trip down the 210 included a super-custom Honda N600 with a Honda motorcycle engine and a 12,000 rpm redline (that is not a typo!), a 1937 Yellowstone bus, and a replica Lotus 11 racecar.

The Pasadena Police Annual Classic is a real treat, and the bonus is that it benefits many worthy causes including the Pasadena PAL program, Peace Over Violence Organization, and the Pasadena Police Explorer Program. While it was the literally the hottest car show I’ve attended it was also one of the coolest.
