Words and pictures by Roy Nakano There is no better place to have a hot rod show than historic downtown Monrovia. That fact didn’t escaped San Gabriel Valley’s Street Rods Forever organization, and it’s the reason the 20th annual Hot Rod and Custom Car Show convened in Monrovia on September 11, 2010 for its biggest show ever. In the process, the rodders took over all of Myrtle Avenue, from Palm Avenue, all the way down to Walnut Avenue, and stretching down the sides streets of Olive, Colorado, Lemon, and Lime. The rodders had some accomplices to pull this off—i.e., Manny, Moe and Jack (the Pep Boys), along with Ken (his Temple City tow service). Monrovia’s own world champion Billy ‘The Bullet’ Hamill served as the grand marshall. The shop owners all along Myrtle were more than happy to cooperate, as show goers came from all around to look, shop and feast. All-in-all, it’s just another fine day in Old Town.
