The Big Leagues: Classic Auto Show 2019

The Classic Auto Show is bigger and better, moves to new location at the OC Fair & Event Center. March 16 and 17.

My oldest just started Little League and while I love to see her play, I gotta say the time commitment is very real. So real that I won’t be able to make it down to see the third annual Classic Auto Show in person. It’s too bad because from what I can tell, this show is even bigger and better than last years. It’s going down now and those of you who don’t have kid sports to get in the way have until Sunday night to check out some really cool rides.

2,000 Vehicles on Display

You read that right, 2,000. More than 80 car clubs and 200 vendors are on hand to celebrate everything cool about classic cars (which is just about everything) this weekend. The Petersen Automotive Museum’s is displaying several show cars, including six cars from it’s famed Vault. The San Diego Automotive Museum and Automobile Driving Museum also have lent some priceless cars into the mix. Grand Marshall Adam Carolla is lending two of his race cars (methinks of the Newman variety) to the weekend festivities.

While these priceless cars are cool, what makes me wistful is the other 1990+ cars I’d like to see and all the conversations with fellow enthusiasts I’m missing out on…right…now. (FOMO much Glenn?)

Celebrity Sighting

Carolla will be joined by a veritable Who’s Who of automotive celebrities including Dave Kindig, Wayne Carini, Mark Worman, Mike Finnegan, Bogi Lateiner, and Lyn St. James at the Classic Auto Show’s Celebrity Stage.

Grand Boulevard

This year’s variation on the Classic Auto Show’s famed Grand Boulevard will highlight 30 unique cars that are rarely seen and have a distinctive pedigree or historical notoriety.  My two favorites – a 1976 Bricklin SV1 – the Canadian version of a DeLorean, and a 1956 Cadillac Limousine 7533 used under the dictatorship of Generalismo Francisco Franco.

Top o’ the morning to you

New for this year – an all-new “40 Shades of Green” collection to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day Weekend featuring a selection of you guessed it, green vehicles. In addition, the new “Classic Truck Tailgate Party” featuring vintage trucks and tailgate games.

I am marking Classic Auto Show down in my calendar for next year. If there’s a game that day, Coach Glenn may develop a cough. If you’re a classic car fan and you’re free for the rest of today and/or tomorrow – don’t miss out on the fun, and please shoot me a note to let me know how much I missed.
