Hot Wheels x Roborace Collaboration

Robocar takes a page out of Robocop and tells Hot Wheels to “drop it!”: the first ever robot racecar die-cast.

Long-time LACar.com readers know that I love Hot Wheels as much as I love my actual cars. Take a futuristic racecar, add a robot brain for a driver, and make it into a Hot Wheel. Sign me up for that, even if it is the beginning of SkyNet!

That’s exactly what the geniuses behind Cyberdyne… I mean Roborace and Hot Wheels — have done with the latest addition to Hot Wheel’s basic line. This is the line that retails just over a buck and has me volunteering for every milk run at Ralph’s. Let’s just say I do a heavy pour for the kids.  Roborace joins other top racing series who have worked with Hot Wheels from Formula 1 and Indycar to NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing, various off-road series and even the Gumball 3000.

The die-cast is a spot-on replica of the real deal, which is not a small feat considering the super thin tolerances involved. The team at Hot Wheels have captured the futuristic essence of the Robocar, which was penned by Roborace Chief Design Officer Daniel Simon. Simon is the creative force behind vehicles for movies such as Tron: Legacy and Oblivion.

The launch event was held in the famous Hot Wheels Garage in El Segundo. In addition to the Robocar and its 1:64 clones, several cool Hot Wheels builds and show cars were on display. If you’re ever in the area on a cough cough milk run, I also recommend checking out the Automotive Driving Museum next door.
