The show that put Japanese classics on the cultural map in Southern California moves to a new location, keeps the hits coming

Bigger, better and always classy the Japanese Classic Car Show “JCCS”, was once again the epicenter of “kuysha kai” classic Japanese car culture in Southern California. Thousands of dedicated fans of classic Japanese cars and motorcycles descended on the new Marina Green Park venue for the 14th Annual show.

All of the major Japanese automakers were well represented, with Datsun/Nissan taking the crown for most entries and one Isuzu carrying that marks banner. Rare and unique models such as the Toyota 2000GT, ’74 Mazda RX-4, ’72 Toyota Crown, ’68 Toyota S800, and ’74 Honda Step Van were on display next to more ubiquitous models from the past.

If you are a fan of full blown builds such as a ’71 Datsun 510 (Twin turbo), ’77 Toyota Celica (3SGE Beams) or unrestored survivors such as a ’85 Toyota MR2, and ’93 Nissan 300ZX there was something for you.

For myself, I got a kick seeing the ’79 Toyota Corolla GTS and ’87 Acura Legend. The former was the first car my family had in the United States, the latter was what my older brother used to teach me manual shift. That’s the beauty of the JCCS, and classic cars. They invoke memories or connect you to an era before your time.
