The stellar Type R gets even more performance upgrades for 2020.

If you prefer taking your Type R to the track, the new 2020 model has some goodies for you. The new Civic Type R prides itself on handling like a go-kart, and Honda has made sure to expand on this aspect. Also new for 2020 is that beautiful new ‘Boost Blue’ and is exclusively available on the 2020 Type R model.

To start things off, the 2020 Civic Type R introduces new two-piece brake rotors and new brake pads designed to improve high-speed braking efficiency and brake fade. In the suspension department, stiffer rear bushings provide better grip. Updated dampers have been added for better ride comfort, and the front suspension has been altered to reduce friction and improve steering feel.

Up front, the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder remains untouched, but still produces 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The front grill has been opened up a bit, allowing for improved engine cooling. Thankfully, the six-speed manual transmission remains, and the shift knob has been restyled and shortened for quicker shift throws.

The three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – make a return, and the driver can choose any of these modes based on desired suspension firmness, steering and throttle response. A new interior feature for 2020 is Active Sound Control, which modifies interior sound depending on the chosen drive mode.

Inside, Alcantara makes an appearance on the steering wheel, bringing a sense of refinement to the Civic Type R. The Honda Sensing suite is also available on the 2020 Type R for the first time, adding a variety of safety and driver-assistive technologies.

Additional specs and pricing information will be available later this year as we near the 2020 Civic Type R’s release date of Winter 2020.
