Last December, Chevrolet whetted the appetites of truck enthusiasts with a teaser reveal of the all-new Silverado 1500 full-size pickup at the Texas Motor Speedway outside Fort Worth, Texas. On the eve of the North American International Auto Show, Chevrolet revealed the full lineup at Detroit’s Eastern Market. Celebrating 100 years of Chevy trucks, the next-gen Silverado offers a trim level for all walks of life and applications.

There are a total of eight trim levels starting from the base, everyday work truck on up to the premium, high feature “luxury” truck. Overall, the design of the new Silverado is sleeker, more aerodynamic. What’s more, even though the wheelbase and overall length are longer than the previous truck, the new Silverado is 450 pounds lighter thanks to its mixed materials construction. The fully boxed steel frame is 80 pounds lighter but more rigid. All swing panels – doors and tailgate – are aluminum, and all fixed panels are steel.

The powertrain lineup includes six different engine and transmission combinations. There’s an all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo diesel plus a new 5.3L and 6.2L gas-powered V8 engines that feature dynamic fuel management capable of shutting down 1 to 7 cylinders depending on drive and load conditions. The 3.0L and 6.2L are paired with an all-new 10-speed transmission.

Thanks to the light weighting as well as powertrain and aerodynamic improvements, the new Silverado is expected to be a full efficiency leader in the full-size segment. Production of the 2019 model begins this Fall.
