Pictures by Roy Nakano Leave it to Pasadena, California to combine a sidewalk chalk art festival with a classic car show. In celebration of Father’s Day, a sea of classic cars poured into Pasadena’s Green Street, flanked on both sides by more than 500 artists from all over California create hundreds of murals, using pastel chalk as their brush and the pavement as the canvas. LA Car was there to capture the artwork drawn on as well as rolled onto the pavement.
It was the 21st chalk festival, but only the 12th police department classic car show for the City of Pasadena. While the chalk festival has been around longer, there was no shortage of show cars, as vehicles from the turn of the 20th century to 1974 flocked Green Street, with a police helicopter and an armored SWAT vehicle thrown in for good measure.
You have to hand it to the organizers in Pasadena who decided to hold the car show concurrently with the chalk art festival, and alongside the popular Paseo Colorado shopping center. If your family is not into car art, there's the chalk art, not to mention lots of food and plenty of shopping opportunities. Hence, there's something here for everyone.
