The latest iteration of historical dominance on a car is finally here. Introducing the 2021 Ford GT Heritage Edition. The iconic look harkens back to the livery on the #98 Ford GT40 MK II that emerged victorious at the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental. That race was the first endurance victory for the GT40 MK II and kicked off a magical year in motorsports for Ford.
Co-drivers Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby led a mighty 1-2-3-5 Ford finish at Daytona in 1966. Additional 1-2-3 wins at Sebring and Le Mans would cap the historic season for the Blue Oval. This new Heritage Edition is the first to feature a livery famous for a race other than Le Mans.
āFor this Heritage Edition, the Ford Performance team went deeper into the Ford GTās race history and crafted a limited-edition model that stylistically honors the 55th anniversary of the Daytona 24 Hour endurance race that would eventually lead to our successes at Le Mans,ā said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager.
The announcement of the 2021 Ford GT Heritage Edition came on Sunday at Petersen Car Week and capped off a week of incredible content that was featured on the Petersen Automotive Museumās YouTube channel.
The iconic colors of the #98 GT40 MK II flying around Daytona can be seen in āFord v Ferrariā. Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby masterfully piloted the car to a monstrous victory.
āMiles and Ruby led nearly every lap of the 24-hour race and outpaced the competition by 30 miles,ā said Severson. āThe win was the first time anyone had threatened Ferrariās dominance in sports car racing and represented a turning point in the Ford GT race program.ā
The new 2021 Heritage Edition takes inspiration from the 1966 winning Ford GT40 MK IIās white, red, and black exterior. The new Heritage Edition features Frozen White exterior paint with an exposed carbon fiber hood. Asymmetrical Race Red accents on the front fascia and roof edge, driverās side door and underneath the rear wing add distinct looks. Swaths of exposed carbon fiber appear by shaping the signature 98 roundel graphics. Unique Ford graphics are equipped on the body along with some gorgeous one-piece Heritage Gold 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels. Red lacquered Brembo monoblock brake calipers lay tucked behind the wheels and match the paint scheme.
On the interior, Alcantara abounds on the steering wheel, instrument panel and headliner. Anodized red paddle shifters and red Alcantara suede performance seats provides sharp contrast that looks fantastic.
For customers that want to go above and beyond, an optional Heritage Upgrade Package is available. The package includes 20-inch exposed carbon fiber wheels with a glossy red inner accent barrel. The monoblock brake calipers are coated in black and detailed with Brembo lettering in red. Inside, ghosted 98 roundels provide detail on both the driver and passenger carbon fiber door panels.
Deliveries of the 2021 Ford GT will begin in early 2021, with Ford GT production wrapping up in 2022.
