Local gas prices continued declining for the fourth straight week, but motorists are continuing to pay record prices for this time of year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.816 per gallon, which is 5.9 cents lower than last week, 14.3 cents lower than last month, and 83 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.806, a decrease of 5.9 cents from last week, 15.6 cents below last month, and 80 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.857, down 5.6 cents from last week, 11.3 cents lower than a month ago, and 81 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.795, down 6.1 cents from last week, 13.9 cents lower than last month, and 82 cents more than last year. “Even with these price declines, 2011 is on track to become the record overall year for gas prices, despite the fact that we never got near the all-time record $4.60 pump prices of 2008,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “The year-to-date average price motorists have paid in California is $3.84 a gallon for regular unleaded. Gas prices would have to average $2.44 a gallon between now and the end of the year for the yearlong average price to drop below the California annual record of $3.52 reached during 2008.” The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of October 6, 2011, the local prices are: Los Angeles–Long Beach Regular: $3.816 One-week change: -5.9 cents Record price: $4.626 (June 21, 2008) Orange County Regular: $3.777 One-week change: -6.4 cents Record price: $4.598 (June 19, 2008) San Diego Regular: $3.806 One-week change: -5.9 cents Record price: 4.630 (June 19, 2008) Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc Regular price: $3.857 One-week change: -5.9 cents Record price: $4.709 (June 21, 2008) Riverside-San Bernardino Regular price: $3.795 One-wek change: -5.9 cents Record price: $4.614 (June 22, 2008) Bakersfield Regular price: $3.851 One-week change: -4.2 cents Record price: $4.591 (June 24, 2008) Ventura Regular price: $3.810 Regular price: -6.1 cents Record price: 4.625 (June 18, 2008) To find the latest gas prices in your area, click here For more Auto Club information, go to the Southern California Automobile Club site
