(LOS ANGELES – Oct. 27, 2011) –Gas prices reversed course in most Southern California areas and began heading downward last week after two straight weeks of increases, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.864 per gallon, which is 2.8 cents lower than last week, 2.6 cents lower than last month, and 74 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.844, a decrease of 4.5 cents from last week, 3.9 cents below last month, and 71 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.916, up seven-tenths of a cent from last week, 2.8 cents lower than a month ago, and 72 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.841, down 1.4 cents from last week, 3.1 cents lower than last month, and 73 cents more than last year. “We’re seeing a slight price drop nationwide as well as locally, and this is the time of year when gas prices decrease,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “But with prices still close to $4 a gallon, consumers should look for as many ways to save on gas as possible, including carpooling, shopping for the cheapest price, maintaining their vehicle and tires, and adopting a smooth driving style that minimizes speeding.” The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline.
