Subscribe to LACar (and a Volvo?)

Subscriptions, in my mind, once mainly meant receiving a magazine daily, weekly, or monthly. Then came the shaver-heads and toothbrushes that are sent out to you on a set schedule. Contact lenses, I just learned, are also offered in this way (I’m a new contact wearer). But seeing the word subscription applied to a car is relatively new to me. Did a good-old “lease” become blasĂ©? Enter, the S60 T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered!

Volvo ups their game by offering their S60 T8 Polestar Engineered sedan, a very unique and extremely limited (only 20 of the 415hp vehicles available in the United States) vehicle, only through the Volvo app: “Care by Volvo”. If this piques your interest, you might want to hurry up and download the app before the release time of noon ET today, June 28th. Volvo says that customers, by using the app, can “simply choose their S60 T8 Polestar Engineered in-app and make all-inclusive, monthly payments that cover insurance, service, and maintenance”. We assume that the $1100 per month also covers the cost of the car itself.

It does look sporty. Not sure how much “hybrid” this car exudes.

What makes the S60 T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered so special? Well, as noted, there are only 20 available in the U.S., and the 2019 model year are only offered through an app(!). Furthermore, the brakes are Polestar Engineered Brembo Brakes with gold calipers and the suspension is a Polestar Engineered Ă–hlins Suspension. To top it all off, the S60 T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered is powered by a 415-hp and 494 lb/ft torque Polestar Optimized T8 Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain. That’s a lot of juice for an S60.

If the $1100 per month subscription is outside of your comfort zone, the more “normal” S60s (S60 T6 Momentum or T6 R-Design, anyone?) are available for subscription through the app as well.
