When Wally Byam created the first Airstream back in 1936, it was the first of a long lineage of aerodynamic silver aluminum trailers that manages to look both retro and futuristic at the same time. From the outside, today's Airstreams don't look all that different from the earliest versions. Oh, but a lot has happened inside. This weekend, San Gabriel officials were on hand for the grand opening of Airsteam Los Angeles—the company’s only authorized Airstream dealer in the county. LA Car was there to capture the moment with a Nikon DSLR and a few lenses.
San Gabriel city officials were on hand for the grand opening of Airstream Los Angeles, the company’s only authorized Airstream Sales and Service dealership in Los Angeles County. The dealership offers the full line of new Airstream travel trailers, including the Eddie Bauer Airstream, Flying Cloud, International, Classic, and Sport.
Mayor Kevin Sawkins and City Council members marked the occasion with Airstream Inc. President and CEO Bob Wheeler, owner Dennis Lin of the New Century Automobile Group, and General Manager Ken Baker.
The grand opening featured a Sterling Concept Trailer designed by architect Christopher C. Deam. Vintage Airstreams were also on display, courtesy of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International. Live 1960s-inspired California surf music echoed the good feelings created by the Airstream adventure-filled lifestyle.
“Airstream is an American icon, and San Gabriel is the perfect place to host this legendary brand,” said City Manager Steve Preston. “Airstream’s luxury line of travel trailers promotes tourism, boosting our local economy and promoting San Gabriel as a unique destination in Southern California.”
