LIFE WITH THE FAMILY HAULER
By Sean Spear
My wife’s first words when seeing the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse in our driveway was “Sean, that thing is big! Hey, we can make a Costco run! And it’s already past time for spring planting; we can get everything we need in one trip! There’s also that cherry desk at the thrift store….” You get the picture. So while my enthusiasm for driving a big SUV was ‘restrained’ (I completely delude myself with my belief that I am still an urbanite just slumming it in the suburbs of LA for the last eleven years), my wife was almost giddy just thinking about the possibilities that the Traverse presented us.
Now, my wife is no pure suburbanite either as she splits her time between working in Downtown LA and commuting in a small car to our home in the San Gabriel Valley. Still, there is no denying her desire for a more spacious vehicle to use when needed. And if it means scratching off a few items on our ‘To-Do’ list? Well that’s just icing on the cake.
The third player in our family hauler story here is our twelve-year old son. As “tweens” go, our son is still relatively interested in us; although his attention is gradually shifting towards what we can do to enhance his standing with his ‘clique’ of school buddies. For the Traverse, his interest focused on: 1) What will my friends think as we roll-up in the school drop-off line; and 2) When can I try-out the built-in video system?
