On Saturday, August 29th, it’s LA Car Night at Irwindale Speedway—an evening of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racers, Hollywood Bandoleros, Legend Cars, South West Tour Trucks, and more at the Southland’s own half track. The first 500 LA Car fans can get a voucher for free passes (for themselves and their guest). Get the voucher from eventbrite.com, and turn it in for hard tickets at the ticket window. The evening’s events include:
NASCAR Whelen All American Series
What began as the NASCAR Winston Racing Series in 1982 is now the Whelen All-American Series—a points championship for NASCAR sanctioned local racetracks around the United States and Canada. The Whelen All-American Series became the first NASCAR-sanctioned series to have a permanent presence outside of the United States, with tracks in Saint-Eustache, Quebec, Delaware, Ontario, and Wetaskiwin, Alberta, electing to be part of the series.
Universal Studios Hollywood Bandoleros
This is a class of racing for our future superstars. Every chassis is made the same, every car has the same Briggs & Stratton motors. The only thing different with the other cars are the drivers, colors and numbers. A highly competitive division of racing and a great way to teach the Young Guns of the sport.
Seidner's Collision Centers Late Models
This is Irwindale’s national points competition division, these late model stock cars representing all of the top brands, with roaring V-8 engines all driven by young drivers who know that doing well at Irwindale means that they have the right stuff for racing competition anywhere.
Legend Cars
5/8 Scale versions of 1930s and 1940s "hardtops"—all with identical technical specifications. High-revving four-cylinder Yamaha motorcycle motors bolted into lightweight chassis make this class one of the most competitive and exciting divisions to watch race at Irwindale. Not all that long ago Brickyard 400 winner Kyle Busch was racing a Legend Car at Irwindale.
Pick Your Part South West Tour Trucks
These trucks are designed off of a GM metric chassis—mostly built off of an 1980s Oldsmodile Cutlass. Monte Carlo or Buick Regal. From the chassis up, they have a full cage and fiberglass truck body. These race vehicles are powered by a 302 c.i.d. Ford or 350 c.i.d. Chevy power plant. They may look like workday vehicles, but they sure move like real race cars!

“This is a unique fan experience for all ages, right down on the racing surface, all the cars, drivers, crews, fun, autographs, goodies ... something that’s only done at short track and gets the night started off right for everyone competitors and fans.” – Doug Stokes
Opening ceremonies: 6:45pm
First race: 7:00pm
Last race ends: just before 10:00pm
“The tradition is for fans to come back to the pits after the race to congratulate and/or commiserate with them. It actually helps traffic out flow with only about half of the fans scurrying to their cars to go home and the other half heading for the pit area to rub shoulders with the racers and crews—very different from the super speedway experience.” – Doug Stokes
Gates close: Around 11:30 p.m.
