The Presidential limo As much as he might want one, the presidential limo will not be a plug-in electric car, or even an "old fashioned" hybrid, for that matter. Responding in a town hall in North Carolina last week, President Obama said that, upon taking office, he asked if the Presidential limo could be a hybrid. The Secret Service had to say no because the armor-plated limo is twice as heavy as a normal limo and a hybrid powertrain would just not handle the extra weight. But President Obama does have experience with hybrids - before being elected he was driving a Ford Escape Hybrid. Plus, the president significantly increased the number of hybrids in the U.S. federal fleet with an order for 5,600 hybrids. Ailis Aaron Wolf, Hybrid Owners of America
