If you've been salivating at the prospect of making your reservation for the new Nissan Leaf, it looks like you'll have to wait a bit longer. Nissan flubbed it as several glitches cropped up in its registration system, which opened (theoretically!) on April 20th. First among the problems: Many customers on the pre-interest list never even got the email about registration being opened - and we were among the many who were left out in the cold by Nissan. Once we found out about the availability of the $99 refundable registration through other means, we were among the those who jumped on it - and then found that the registration system was no longer available. It sounds like the level of traffic might have been an issue - apparently the system could not handle so many people trying to register at one time. Considering that 115,000 people were on the pre-interest list, you'd think Nissan would have planned for the rush. Not a very encouraging start! However, it is good to see so much interest in the all-electric car. We hear that we will have to wait until May 15 to make our delayed reservation. Ailis Aaron Wolf Hybrid Owners of America
