Nissan Leaf 90 percent of Leaf buyers are current Prius owners or were thinking of buying a Prius Ever heard the term "conquest sales"? We hadn't either. We were interested to learn that a "conquest sale" is when a car company steals a customer away from a competitor--such as Nissan poaching a current Prius owner or likely Prius buyer. It turns out that was Nissan's goal with the electric Leaf--and it seems to be working. Of the 14,000 pre-orders they have had for the their eagerly-awaited electric car, 90 percent will be conquest sales. We are on the Leaf pre-order list and can't wait to get ours. But we haven't decided what we'll be doing with our Prius once the Leaf arrives. Would it be a "double conquest" if we bought the new Leaf instead of a new Prius and then ditched our old Prius in the bargain? Ailis Aaron Wolf, Hybrid Owners of America
