The Porsche Taycan is officially one step closer to production. It is currently doing extreme temperature endurance testing worldwide. From the Arctic Circle to South African deserts, Porsche is putting the Taycan battery through its paces.

The Porsche Taycan is the company’s most anticipated vehicle as its the first electric car that is a real threat to Tesla.

At least 20,000 people have thrown down their deposit with eager abandon for the Porsche Taycan and I can’t say I blame them.

So, how exactly is the German automaker prepping the Porsche Taycan for production? They have actually detailed their testing regimen.

Here is the Porsche Taycan testing program:

Overall distance covered: Approximately six million kilometers (3.7 million miles), of which two million are endurance run kilometers.
Countries: A total of 30, including the USA, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Finland.
Temperatures: From minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius.
Air humidity: From 20 to 100 per cent.
Altitude: From 85 meters below to 3,000 meters above sea level.
Charging cycles: Over 100,000 using various charging technologies across the globe.
Development team: Around 1,000 test drivers, technicians and engineers.

If those tests seem severe, just remember that Porsche is promising a 310 mile range from the Taycan’s battery.

Speaking of the battery, Porsche promises that the Taycan’s 800-volt battery can provide up to 62 miles of range after just 4 minutes of charging.

Combined, this electric car can potentially be the new benchmark for what all-electric luxury/performance cars should meet.

Hopefully, this car meets the lofty expectations set upon it by scores of electric car enthusiasts and first adopters.
