Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk confirms that Cuphead will be playable on Model 3, Model S, and Model X cars soon.
It is funny to think how far things have come isn’t it? Not too long ago the most entertaining thing your car’s dashboard could do was play music. Today, cars can do that, navigate you, and even make dinner reservations. Gaming in cars isn’t new. However, in the past it was typically handled by aftermarket products and relegated to the back seat.
Tesla Motors is the first automotive company to offer video games as a feature within their cars out of the factory. Although, for the most part it is not something they actively “advertise”. Rather, it is more of an “easter egg” than an overtly publicized feature. For example, Tesla owners can currently play a few old school Atari games in certain Teslas without much digging.
However, recently Elon Musk confirmed on the “Ride The Lighting” podcast (skip to the 36:48 time mark for the statement) that the Tesla team has been working to port popular game engine Unity to their vehicles so that they can play more modern games. He then specifically pointed out Cuphead as a game that they’ve currently “got working”
The complete game will not make it to the Tesla interface due to space limitations but a few levels will be playable. It will also require a USB controller to play rather than just using the touchscreen.
No word yet on when the game will roll out to Tesla owners. Although with the massive E3 video game expo set to start next week, I have a feeling it will be soon.
