SCENES FROM THE SECOND ANNUAL SAN MARINO MOTOR CLASSIC Pictures by Roy Nakano Only in its second year of existence, the San Marino Motor Classic Design in Motion has become one of the Southland’s most beguiling automotive events. This year, the outing at San Marino, California’s Lacy Park was held on Sunday, June 10, 2012. LA Car was there to capture the cars on camera.
Enthusiasts saw a wide variety of Brass Era cars, Depression Era classics and Post-War luxury and sports cars competing in 31 classes. “We’re especially excited for this year,” said Aaron Weiss, Co-Chair of the event. “People really enjoyed last year’s inaugural event so we’re building upon that to showcase even more cars this year and to let people see firsthand prominent parts of automobile history.”
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA and the Rotary Club of San Marino. The 2011 inaugural event raised more than $125,000 for both charities in addition to attracting more than 220 collector cars and 3,000 spectators. Dave Kunz of KABC 7 and co-host of KPFK’s The Car Show returned as Master of Ceremony this year.
About the San Marino Motor Classic The San Marino Motor Classic features a broad array of motorcars that span more than a century. Co-founded by Aaron Weiss, Paul Colony and Ben Reiling, the first event boasted more than 20 judged classes of select vehicles. It is the successor of the Los Angeles Concours d’Elegance.
