If you’re visiting Los Angeles, these museums are a must-see to fully understand the influence LA has on the automotive world. If you’re a local and you haven’t been to these museums, what are you waiting for? Here’s 5 of the best car museums in Los Angeles.
Petersen Automotive Museum
Widely regarded one of the best car museums in the world, the Petersen Automotive Museum is a LA landmark. Once you pass through the unique exterior of the building, you’ll behold a vast and outstanding collection of automobiles. The collection is always changing, so each time you visit your experience will be fresh. Be ready to see cars from movies, celebrity collections, experimental vehicles, and more.
Nethercutt Museum and Collection
Located about half an hour northwest of downtown LA, the Nethercutt displays a bit of everything. Watches, antique furniture, mechanical instruments, and what we came for: loads of cars. Ranging from the late 1800’s, the vintage cars here are some of the most beautiful creations ever made, with a group of Pebble Beach concours winners. This little gem is only available by reserved tours, and admission is free.
Automobile Driving Museum
Not too many museums let you feel the exhibits. However, the Automobile Driving Museum goes above and beyond that, and lets you ride in the exhibits. On Sundays, some of the vehicles in the museum are available for ride-alongs to provide a truly unique experience. Inside, over 130 muscle, vintage and classic cars await. The immersive exhibits give visitors a sense of connection with the cars as they learn about the engineering and design of the vehicles.
Marconi Automotive Museum
If classic behemoth examples of the automobile aren’t your style, perhaps you’ll like the Marconi Automotive Museum. An impressive collection of exotics, vintage racecars, and insane speed machines is the theme here. Get ready to drool over curvy lines, wicked aerodynamics, and towering wings as classic Formula 1 cars hang off the walls. A staggering assortment of automotive racing memorabilia is also on display, making the Marconi a race fanatic’s heaven.
Mullin Automotive Museum
The Mullin Automotive Museum is located in Oxnard, and has a very niche collection. Specializing in 20th-century French automotive styling and design, the cars here range from Bugatti to Delahaye. Many of the cars at the Mullin have won awards at various concours events, along with Le Mans winners. The French cars of the early 20th century are touted as some of the most beautiful vehicles ever assembled, and it’s something the Mullin Automotive Museum absolutely embodies.
